ABSTRACT

The issue of apartheid in South Africa has always been a focal point in regional studies. Since the social transformation in 1994, the South African government has made significant progress in de-isolating living spaces. However, at the micro level, disparities in residential areas still exist. Informal settlements suffer from poor conditions and low coverage of public services, exacerbating social issues such as violent crime. Racial exclusion has deepened mutual distrust between different groups, making it difficult to achieve true spatial justice. In the post-apartheid era, the government needs to reassess resource allocation mechanisms, further upgrade and transform slums, and reconstruct spatial order to promote sustainable social development and racial reconciliation.
