ABSTRACT

Human linguistic abilities are acquired through two primary pathways: language acquisition and language learning. Language acquisition is an unconscious, natural process akin to first language acquisition, whereas language learning is a conscious endeavor, typically occurring within a classroom setting. Early childhood is a critical period for language development; through natural communication environments, children can effectively acquire both their native and second languages. The linguistic background of the family and community plays a crucial role in providing this natural language environment. Bilingual families must carefully plan and adhere to strategies that foster a bilingual setting, enabling children to learn and differentiate between two languages.
